File Formats

JPEG – The most common file format used for images. JPEG actually means ‘Joint Photographic Experts Group’ which is the name of the company which invented the JPEG. This file format tends to be a lossy format to use. Tending to lose some of the image data, therefore lowering the quality of the image.

PNG – PNG stands for ‘Portable Network Graphics’ is a lossless data compression. Enabling the image to be reconstructed in exactly the same quality. PNG was developed in 1995 as a replacement for the GIF format.

ZIP – ZIP is a data compressed file format. ZIP files are created to compress files making them easier to download or send in an email or online. This file format was first released on Feb. 14 1989 and was created by Phil Katz of PKWARE and Gary Conway of IDC (Infinity Design Concepts).

ISO – Is an archive file or a disc image. An ISO file has all the files contained on DVD, PC or any other disc. This making it an easy way to transfer files across the internet and/or company to company. Can also be easily rendered to burn to a disc so can be used on travels.

ICI – Is a computer programming language originally developed by Tim Long in the 1980s. It has flexible data types. Has many built-in functions.
